OVERVIEW
A TLC flight is for those who served in uniform that have been diagnosed with a terminal illness. This special category of veterans we refer to as “TLC” meaning “Their Last Chance”. All terminally ill veterans, regardless of the time period of service, are eligible for this program.
TLC veterans are given top priority – meaning, we do everything possible to ensure veterans are accommodated on the next possible flight.
To determine if a veteran qualifies for the TLC program, we must receive a letter with the diagnosis and prognosis from the veteran’s physician which includes the following:
- The veteran suffers from a terminal condition that, according to the veteran’s private physician, is likely to limit the veteran’s remaining life to 12 months or less.
These special veterans require close observation. To avoid having an ill veteran travel alone, the veteran must be accompanied by ONE guardian, a caregiver who is willing to escort the veteran to and from the veteran’s home airport to DC and throughout the veteran’s time in DC. This guardian must be trained, competent and experienced in the routine medical care of the veteran. Overnight stays are required. We will book a room with two double beds so the guardian can stay with the veteran. The guardian must complete a guardian application.
